I didn't know today was Jerry's birthday. I know he can see us. I am very grateful he has created a lifetime of music to listen to. I seriously couldn't make it without him. I am from the younger generation I am 25 so I never got to see him play because I didn't really get into the Dead until I was in High School. But now Jerry is almost my favorite thing in my life. I know his Death was not in vein because I think he passed on for a greater purpose. And now we all have something to be thankful for.

My birthday is Sept 8th which happens to be the same as pigpen's.

My eight year old recently joined the flock.

The other night while I was blasting yet another killer show. My eight year old daughter asked my wife: "Mom, what's a Deadhead", My Wife: "It's someone who likes the Grateful Dead more than they need to", daughter: "Mom, I think I'm a Deadhead".

I'm so proud of her!!!

Hey jglynn...

I've never done this before, but your post made me laugh so hard I just forwarded it to my wife, who I think will want to become BFF with yours based on the exact same feelings she has about putting up with a DeadHead husband.

We're about to have our first child and I can only hope he or she comes around the way your 8-year old did.

Thanks, guys!

looks like we won't get a "Jerry baby" at this point...I was holding out some hope he or she would be born on Jerry's Birthday, but my wife's showing no signs....she's relieved! (A good sport to be sure; and she does admit to liking "Peggy-O" ;-)

^ I LOL'd--my other half would agree with that definition, for sure. It still baffles me how someone can be exposed to such amazing shows and still not really "get it." We're of a strange breed, we are. Glad that one of your brood is into the pudding now, Mr. Glynn!

Today it's all about the Spectrum run in October '89 for me. I'm cranking out the sublime Bird Song > TMNS from the 18th and then I plan on skipping over to the monstrous H > S! > F from the next night.

Missing the maestro immensely, even if I was too young to catch him while he was still around. What I'd give for a time machine!

Kudos to your 8 year old - my 7 yr old daughter will often ask for "Jerry music". Drives my wife nuts. She likes to leave the house, go run errands, and come back and say, "Oh, is this still the same song?"

lol

The other day my wife hit 'skip' and I said "Hey, I was listening to that", She says "It sounded like they were in some drug induced stupor", So I say "That was the end of Estimated Prophet", and she says "What, you know the names of the Songs?". Well I let that sink in before: "Of course I know the names."

Nice.
"Well I married me a wife, shes been trouble all my life". My wife is one of those who said "I'll be grateful when their dead". Ugh. Well, they've been gone, but their music is strnger than ever in my life. I have four kids and whenever my wife's not around, or we're in my car we crank up the dead. Nothing like my 6-year old girl (the youngest) singing "going down the road feeling bad". There only complaint is the songs are too long. I ask, what's wrong with a 30 minute Dark Star.
Turn the kids on to Jerry. Oh -- and my aunt just gave birth to her first kid this morning. Jerry's day.
yay dead.
